Need some motivation to get you exercising? Here are 10 great reasons that are sure to move (literally) you!

1. For more self confidence

When you feel more comfortable in your own skin, you gain self assurance and have a higher confidence in your abilities to surmount any obstacles that come your way.

2. For better sleep

Studies show that people who engage in moderate-intensity physical activity for 30 or 40 minutes on a regular basis, fall asleep twice as easily as their sedentary counterparts.

3. For more energy

Your body absorbs and processes oxygen more easily, which releases tension from your muscles (and head).

4. For better sex

Great sex depends on good overall health and high cardiovascular endurance (among other things, of course). Being comfortable with your own body also helps you feel more liberated and open with your partner.

People who don't exercise on a regular basis pay, on average, 10% more for their annual medical expenses. Tack on an additional 8% if they are obese.

10 tips to help you feel great in your own skin

Women come in all shapes and sizes, but it can be hard not to compare ourselves to the stereotypical model of beauty (usually stick-thin) that is often portrayed in the media. But know that with every individual comes a different definition of beauty—the key is learning to love your own. Here are 10 tips to help you on your quest to feeling great in your own skin.

Stop weighing yourself.

You don't have to stop monitoring your weight altogether, but cutting down on how often you step on the scale will avoid you constantly focusing on a number that may not even be a realistic goal. Stop worrying about numbers, and think more about how healthy you feel. Pamper yourself.

Splurge on that scented moisturizer that makes your skin feel super smooth, and soak in the bath for a few minutes longer. Focus on caring for the parts of you that you're not so crazy about so as to familiarize yourself with them. Taking pleasure in taking care of your body will encourage you to see it as something precious that is totally worth being proud of.

Wear clothes that look good.

By this, we don't necessarily mean wearing the latest trends; just stick to pieces that complement your body shape. Making sure you wear flattering clothing will improve how you perceive yourself. You'll walk into every room knowing how great you look.

Get a move on!

Many people see exercise as a means to losing weight. Instead of hitting the gym and working out solo, why not grab a bunch of buddies and play a game of soccer, volleyball, or badminton? Any sport is a great way to move: you'll feel energized, and once again, the focus will be on feeling good, and being healthy—not looking "perfect".

Put it down on paper.

Write down what you love most about your body; is it your beautiful eyes? Or maybe your long silky hair? Note at least five features you think make you beautiful, and focus on making them stand out. Learn to love what you have (a beautiful smile?)—not what you don't (a perfect body). Having a down day? Pull out your list of fab features to help pick up your spirits.

Accept compliments graciously.

When someone hands you a compliment, don't brush it off: simply smile and thank them. You can also write them down somewhere—this way, when you need a little boost of encouragement, you can read them over and recall reasons other people think you are beautiful inside and out.

Drink a lot of water.

This is such a simple gesture, but it will work miracles for your body, flushing out toxins, hydrating your skin and hair, and optimizing your metabolism so you retain less fat from the foods you eat. You'll look better, and feel better!

Surround yourself with positive role models.

Whether it's a celebrity who actually has some curves, or your best friend whose style you just adore, post pictures of positive body image role models wherever you can. Don't forget to include a picture of you where you think you look particularly good. This will help you remember that people are beautiful in their own individual way, and not everyone needs to look the same—the more you assimilate the concept, the more comfortable you'll feel with yourself.

Remember that it's all about you.

In the end, no one cares as much about how you look as you do. We often tend to perceive our flaws to be bigger or worse than they are, and other people may have not even noticed them, so why dwell on them?

Act the part.

Not that comfortable with your body? Don't let it show—walk tall, with your shoulders back, and try to come off as being self-confident. Eventually, you'll believe it yourself and be comfortable with what you have.
